The Syntagma network magazine has a great article on the business of blog networking, based on the insights of Gerry Reynolds, a “business consultant specializing in the retail sector”.
Several salient points:
The online content business is a small margin trade — unless you’re prepared to invest heavily ($20m). By that he means that there are few big payouts for individual sales — i.e. of ad space. Big bucks have to be accumulated over time from small sum payments…
Rarely will one site make a living salary for its owner. It does happen, of course, usually for quirky, semi-commercial blogs which catch on for reasons known only to visitors, or sites using below the radar techniques for hoovering up Adsense clicks…
The need, like corner shops, to work with low margins through quantity, while not compromising on quality. A hard call, and only for the determined.
Lay-bloggers, probloggers, and blog overlord aspirants alike will enjoy the Syntagma post. Read the

The Know More Media blog network has achieved two impressive milestones in the past days, underlining its growing strength and importance in the blogosphere today.
Last Tuesday, Know More Media announced their 10 millionth visit in less than two years:
Know More Media started just over 19 months ago with a handful of authors willing to band together to deliver business news and information to an audience eager for niche business news and information. Since then our network of blogs has expanded to more than 50 active business blogs and has passed several traffic milestones.
The following day, the blog network revealed that they have just
published their 50,000th blog post:
If we assume that the average post is about 150 words, we have published at least 7,500,000 words, which is roughly the equivalent of 75 average full-length novels. When I consider the technology, time, and human power it takes to produce that much original content online, it becomes truly astounding.
Congratulations to Know More Media for both feats.

TechDispenser, a blog network launched in April 2007, has just been added to Blog Network Watch’s list. A little about this network:
Tech Dispenser is different because a Computerworld editor hand-selects every blog in the network and categorizes, tags and prioritizes every story coming into the system…The Tech Dispenser Network is a partnership between Computerworld and high-quality tech bloggers like ha.ckers.org, feld.com and chris.pirillo.com.
According to their
Network page, TechDispenser shares 50% of net revenue with their publishers in addition to driving traffic to the partner sites.

The juggernaut keeps rolling—b5media has opened three blogs that revolve around four of the most talked-about celebrities today.
First is Beckham Groupie, about the high-profile couple of David Beckham and Posh Spice. This couldn’t arrive at a better time—we all know that the soccer/football stud is set to play for the L.A. Galaxy.
Next up is Rihanna Buff, which will be written by “self-confessed pop culture junkie” Melody Robinson. Last but not the least, FergieFreak casts the spotlight on The Black Eyed Peas’ Stacy Ann Ferguson.

The Blog Herald, one of the Net’s best sources of blog and blogging related news and tips, has just launched The Blog Herald China Edition.
This comes just a few months after The Blog Herald opened its Japanese edition. Here are some words from Splashpress Media’s J. Angelo Racoma:
We thought it was worth our while to expand into even more markets. Third biggest in terms of language is Chinese, at about 8% (I think the Chinese market is potentially bigger than the 8% estimated by Technorati, though). So the next logical move would be to open an edition in Chinese.
[The] China edition is humanly translated into Mandarin. We hand-picked featured columns for translation to be sure we reach the intended market with content that is relevant to them, and that is timeless.
The Blog Herald is owned by Splashpress Media.
