Instablogs has launched Unholywars, a blog focused on terrorism:

“Unholywars” is our latest offering to the web world. As the terror bomb ticks away, the humanity cries in distress. Tales of terror, violence, intolerance and senseless killings keep pouring in from all parts of the world. And in this chaos-marred scenario, “Human rights are the first casualty”.

This blog, authored by a senior journalist with an experience of more than three decades in the print media, tries to cover all forms of terrorism, reasons thereof and offer solutions, if any. Apart from fetching you the news-as-it-happens, the writer also tries to project human rights violations in the most humane manner.

The design of the blog has been done in keeping with the theme, which reflects a war-weary world and various shades of human suffering.

Engadget does 80k pageview a minute

According to Jason Calacanis during Steve Jobs keynote address at CES Engadget was doing 80k pageviews a minute at one point and their servers were down for a few minutes.

According to Jeremy Botter:

Did you know that Engadget accounts for roughly 75% of the Weblogsinc advertising revenue? That, folks, is why there’s no room for any more gadget blogs and it’s why Gizmodo is nothing but an afterthought. Oh, and it’s a good thing they’re with AOL now, because I can’t see any independent server farms standing up under that kind of strain.

These number are a big reason why the tech blog market appears to be saturated. And who else can send bloggers down to Vegas for a week to cover these big events? Numbers like this convince me that WeblogsInc hss moved from blog network into MSM.

JOAB closes, rumblings at Fine Fools

Jack of All Blogs is closing:

Thank you guys for making me what I am today. I appreciate Scrivs for all he has done in helping me build a name for myself and I have some huge things in store for 2006. As of today this is my last post for 2005 at Fine Fools. In the near future you are going to find me launching something really special with some great people. It’s more than a blog network its a family of blogs united around building people brands. I don’t want to hype this thing any more than it needs to. It deeply saddens me to leave and this is no hoax. For all my subscribers I don’t know what will happen with this domain. I hope someone cool gets to use it. Whoever it may be good luck and godspeed.

This announcement comes on top of a post from Scrivs over at Fine Fools:

I have failed. I have not met the expectations of some of the writers in this Network. Some feel that I have been simply playing a game and not taking this serious enough and therefore they are angry with me and if that is their point of view they have every right to be.

Cowboy quit because he just wasn’t happy with me and honestly there are many things I am not happy with involving this Network, but I understood why certain things were the way they were.

There are great writers in this Network. Did I not provide them with the means to being successful? Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t. It’s hard to tell from the inside, but if you have people quitting then I guess you haven’t. I know that I am not the most popular person on the web and many people think of me as an “idiot” or someone who has no idea of what they are doing. Maybe you can now use Fine Fools as your proof.

Joystiq Performance

Jason Calacanis posts some Joystiq stats:

Joystiq has been on fire for the past couple of months, and since one blog can’t cover all the information out there we’ve decided to launch what we’re calling internally “the Joystiq Network.” So far we’ve spun out four blogs from Joystiq, a look at the traffic below. My concept is that if these sites can do to 10-20k pages a day they will do 100k pages a day to add to Joystiq’s 200k a day. That will put us in the 10M video game pages a month area. Not a ton, I know, but it’s a start. Also, I’m thinking maybe we could let some blogs outside of Weblogs, Inc. into the network and sell their advertising for them like BlogAds.com does–we’ve been selling out on Joystiq, so selling another ten video game blogs wouldn’t be a problem.
