Today’s interview is with Martin Ralya of Treasure Tables, a blog about game mastering of all types. We wrote previously about Martin back when he joined 9rules a few weeks back.



— Tell us briefly about yourself

I’m 28, and I require caffenie to function. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah with my wonderful girlfriend, Alysia, and our neurotic beagle, Charlie, and I’ve been blogging for about 5 months. I was born in France, grew up in New York City, moved to Michigan for college, and relocated to Utah for my job (I manage parking garages).

I’ve also been a freelance writer for the RPG industry since 2004, and I just completed my first solo project and my second major print project (neither of which will be out until 2006).

My name is Angelina. I write for about a gazillion blogs. I am the self-proclaimed darling of the small micro-blogosphere I inhabit, which probably doesn’t mean shit to you.

People love me. It’s ridiculous. Sometimes, I’m so totally overwhelmed by all the attention, I flip out and smash glasses and slap people. But sure as shit, people come right back around, begging for more. It’s because nobody wears stilettos the way I do. And I secretly think you are all masochistic fools waiting to be dominated by a blogging bitch like me.

In time, you too will learn to love me. Or, even better, learn to love to hate me.

Blog Network List launches overall Blog & Blog Network Ranks

We’re pleased to announce the launch of new overall blog & blog network rankings over at Blog Network List!

We have taken each of our individual metrics for blogs and blog networks and ranked them from lowest to highest. We’ve then averaged those metrics together in order to generate a score for a blog – and then an aggregate score for a network – and used those to generate a set of rankings for blogs and blog networks.

We like this because it provides an overall view of a network – and does so without overly penalizing the networks with a smaller number of blogs than some of the larger networks. As additional metrics become available, we’ll add those into the mix as well.

Currently, the blog index is made up of the following metrics:

  • Technorati rank
  • Technorati blogs linking to blog
  • Technorati links
  • MSN Search pages indexed
  • MSN Search links
  • Google backlinks
  • Google pages indexed
  • Yahoo inlinks
  • Yahoo pages indexed

The blog network index is made up the following metrics:

  • Average Technorati rank
  • Average Technorati blogs linking to network
  • Average Technorati links
  • Average MSN Search pages indexed
  • Average MSN Search linkx
  • Average Google backlinks
  • Average Google pages indexed
  • Average Yahoo inlinks
  • Average Yahoo pages indexed

Where a tie exists in an index score – we use Technorati rank – or average Technorati rank in the case of a blog network – as a tie breaker.

Now that we’ve explained how we’ve indexed and measured the blogs and blog networks, here’s a look at the rankings (click for a larger image):

wurk.net new designs

wurk.net has released some new designs:

After collecting some user feedback – and through trying to simplify things a little more, I’m rolling out some template changes across the core network blogs. The general idea is to make the blogs easier to read and navigate for current readers – and easier to ‘get’ for new readers. blogging.wurk.net, freelance.wurk.net and healthcare.wurk.net are just about set. The rest to come.

9rules welcomes SCAMPER labs & FILE Magazine

9rules has added another new blog – SCAMPER labs:

scamper.org is an autohagiographical repository of curious prose, fact and fiction woven into a troublesome whole. Selections from the scamper.org compendium have appeared in Sweet Fancy Moses, and in a self-published book called “Mining Esoterica.” If there is a greater purpose to our work it is that, through writing about every little thought that burdens our mind, we might find relief from our myriad torments.

They’ve also added FILE Magazine:

The purpose of FILE is to collect and display photographs that treat subjects in unexpected ways. Alternate takes, odd angles, unconventional observations – these are some of the ways photographs collected in FILE reinterpret traditional genres. We leave the Kodak Moments to the family album, the glossy fashion spreads to Vogue, and the photo finishes to ESPN. Alexa Rankings are back!

As we had announced yesterday, we have the Alexa Rankings working and back online.

We note that there appear to be some issues with the new subdomain process from Alexa – so when you’re looking at sites hosted on Blogger, Weblogs, Inc., or some of the group blog networks, there are some inaccuracies. We’ll get those taken care of this weekend.
