Darren Rowse writes of his 18 lessons he’s learned from blogging. My favorite is the eighteenth and last:

18. There are No Rules

Lists like these always finish with a point like this that says ignore all of the above – but that’s not the point of this point (can you have a point of a point?).

All of the above is essential stuff (for me) but the thing I love about blogging is that it’s such a new and emerging technology that there are very few things that you can’t do or shouldn’t try.

Push the boundaries, experiment with the model you’ve got, try new tools and techniques and have a blast doing it. The worst thing you can do really is make a mistake – and we all know that they rock!

Gawker Media relaunches Kinja

Gawker Media’s Kinja has relaunched with a new design and some cool new features. Here’s Steve Rubel’s take over at Micropersuasion:

Kinja, a simple RSS reader/blog directory for the masses from Gawker Media, has relaunched, Lifehacker reports. What I love about Kinja is 1) how it makes finding cool blogs so easy and 2) how it streams your feeds in a river of news called a digest. Your digest, by the way, has its own RSS feed that you can stick somewhere else.

Metroblogging Launches Metroblogging Paris

Metroblogging has launched their 38th blog – Metroblogging Paris:

We sure have been busy over here recently. We launched a batch of cities last month and have a new batch headed your way very shortly starting off with the 38th Metroblogging city – Paris. We’re excited to add another site to our European family, especially our first from France. Check it out, and stay tuned for more.

Change in Overall Rankings Formula

Based on feedback and discussions over the last week, we’ve made some changes to the formulas for the blog and blog network rankings.

In general, we’ve removed any non-traffic metric from the rankings formula.

The new formula is:

  • Alexa Rank
  • Technorati Rank
  • Technorati Links
  • Technorati Blogs Linking
  • Google Backlinks
  • MSN Search Links
  • Yahoo Inlinks

For blogs – the above measurements are used and then averaged. For blog networks – the average of each is taken and then averaged.

We do intend to add Alexa Pageviews at some point in the coming week to this mix. In addition, we’re still looking at options to review some sort of trust metric to weed out some of the “edgier” networks that raised a hue and cry in recent comments.

In any event, some rankings of changed. As always, would appreciate your thoughts and input as we continue to develop this ranking system.

Cowboy Leaves Blogebrity

Liberal Cowboy has left Blogebrity.. already...

I know this is an unprofessional manner to resign but the pay really sucked, and well my readership base is bigger over here anyhow. The topics are similar enough it almost seemed like a conflict of interest. It confused me and my readers to be blogging for the competion. Plus Scrivs made me quit. I promise. It’s all his fault. We are building this blog dynasty and he wants to make sure he has his pitbull along for the ride.
